Mower Must Match Car

Dave Verified Purchase
May 18, 2024

I'm 70. This is my 6th riding mower. The first 2 were used, so this is actually my 4th new purchase riding mower over some 45 years. This Craftsman T2200K replaces a 19 year old Husqvarna (the longest lasting and most expensive before the T2200K) which gave up the ghost and would have required around $1K and my labor to repair, so I splurged, hoping for the best from Craftsman. Here are my thoughts comparing Craftsman (C) vs Husqvarna (H): 1. STEERING. Wow, (C) is like power steering with an insanely tight turning radius. No comparison. 2. SPEED. Again, Wow. Seems like (C) is 2X faster both in forward and reverse. 3. MOWER DECK HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. (C) has 2X as many height choices and has very, very smooth operation vs (H). 4. BAGGER: I always disliked the bagger for the (H). It leaked debris, especially leaves in the fall and was huge and cumbersome. The chute regularly clogged, the plastic parts slowly broke and/or disintegrated, etc. The (C) bagger kit is more compact, much larger chute and I like it much better, overall. Time will tell if it holds up well. 5. PTO TO MOWER DECK: The (H) has electronic engage pull/push knob. (C) is a manual lever. I thought I would be disappointed in the manual lever system, but, so far it works extremely well, is off to the right side out of the way and it's growing on me. 6. MOWING QUANTITY & QUALITY: (C) Height adjustment is spot on from the warehouse assemblers. (H) required some tedious adjustments to get the 4" blade height right and level. (C) mowing quality is excellent and it seems like, despite same deck width rating, that (C) mows a slightly wider swath. I also had some issue with the (H) leaving a thin swath of uncut grass between the blades when the lawn was higher than normal on mowing day. No such thing with (C). 7. GAS TANK: (H) has the gas tank under the seat with a small plastic window that is supposed to show you the tank level. It never worked so you just had to add gas until it splashed out at you. (C) has the tank under the hood with a side entry filler neck and cap. This is an excellent improvement and I can tilt the hood open and clearly see how much gas is in the tank. 8. HEADLIGHTS: (H) has an ON/OFF switch. (C) runs the headlights when you start the machine and turns them off when you stop the machine. Jury is out on this one until I've owned the (C) for a longer time. 9. SEAT: Both have a comfortable seat with plenty of front/back adjustment. (H) seat has a plastic vacuform exterior over foam. Over time, the outer plastic vacuform has cracked open in several places with no way to fix that. (C) has an actual seat cover that I'm sure can easily be replaced and it looks pretty spiffy as well. 10: INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: I promise you, I had no idea that the red paint on (C) would exactly match my car. I really didn't think the ID would matter at all to me... just mow well and last long enough and I don't care what it looks like. After seeing this mower assembled, I've changed my mind. It actually has a WOW factor! I know, it's subjective, so I included a pic for you to decide. 11. POWER: I purposely pushed (C) to its limits on a few long (120 feet) runs over a lawn that should have been mowed a week ago to see if faster speed really matters. What good is a faster mower if it chokes under a heavy load? It does matter because (C) didn't bat an eye while it mowed much faster than (H) ever could and left zero clippings on the ground or clogged in the chute. CONCLUSION: If it seems like I'm gushing over this Craftsman T2200K it's because I'm as pleased with it as one can be with a riding lawn tractor. I can mow faster and still have an excellent looking lawn, which I have taken pride in for some 45 years. It looks great, fits in it's parking spot in my garage, has all the features I'm interested in and they function well. Oh, and let's not forget the MADE IN USA sticker on the bumper. Although I will bet that some or many parts are made in China and assembled in the USA, the ID and fit and finish are recognizably American. What else is there? Five Stars and well deserved.

Best Price Large Rider

Without a doubt I am super happy with this purchase. This is a great mower. I looked at many for about six months and discovered most are made with the same main components but cost hundreds more. It mowes and rides excellently. I was shocked at how tight this machine can turn. It does have a Tuff Torque rearend (not specified in the specs). Very pleased! And its super beautiful to boot. I do and have recommended this mower to my friends and family!

Rarely satisfied with Craftsman.

I purchased this mower for one main reason, the tight turning radius. I haven't had much luck with Craftsman power equipment in the past. I know that Craftsman power tools are made by various manufacturers, but with the exception of their hand tools, quality wasn't there. I saw this mower was made by MTD and had a 2-cylinder Kohler engine so I hoped it would be good choice. So far, this mower has outperformed all of my expectations. I also purchased the bagger and installed it (not too bad!). Had seen bad reviews of bagger but found mine works great and is easy to use. Mower operation is relatively easy, and I do like the tight turning radius. I would highly recommend this mower. Craftsman has atoned itself!

Great Mower but do check things before starting.

This is a great mower that performs very well. Great for a first time tractor mower owner or the experienced. Easy to maintain and do maintenance. Before using, do check things over. For me, tires were over inflated, came with no oil or fuel, the throttle cable for the choke was too loose. Don't assume you can jump on a new one and start mowing. All were easy fixes so as long as you know what you are doing, it is a good mower to have for a long time.

Info on correct mulching kit for this mower

Steve Verified Purchase

Great mower, all works well. Pay attention to which mulching kit works for this mower (S blade or Star blade) The suggested kit was model #CMXGZAMA30047 which is not available. Go to MTDPARTS.com and look up part number 19A30047791 and you will find the correct S-blade mulching kit ($91.99). Make sure your mower model year is 2022 which is what I have. It is a 23 HP whereas previous year was 22 HP. MTD on it's website for parts says this blade kit replaces the CMX one. Just wanted to help folks in their reviews who said they couldn't find the S blade mulching kit as it say Unavailable on Craftsman website but does not show the replacement like MTD states on their website.

Compared to my old lawn tractor, this is like a Cadillac. Driving is like driving the gas powered cars at Disney. Step on gas to go and let off gas to stop but with an option to break fast if needed and go in reverse.

I labored long and hard on which mower to purchase. I have 2 acres and it took me a good 4 hours to cut with previous mower. Looked at commercial 0 turn mower but scared of the price. Settled on this mower and boy am I glad I did! Cutting the same area in less than 1 1/2 hours. Cuts great, rides great, very pleased.

AWESOME

PROS: It starts right up and provides super clean cuts through thick grass at full speed every time. I am impressed with the build quality, turning radius and power it provides. It can go up a fairly steep incline with full grass bags on the back and a heavy operator without hesitation. Love the red color and look of this tractor too, better than the green or yellow alternatives imo. I purchased the twin bagger attachment, really nice addition, looking forward to using it for leaf pickup this fall. No problems or issues after 2 months of ownership, very pleased. Lowes delivery was a breeze, was delivered ready to run right up to my garage door two days after order was placed. CONS: none

The manual fails to mention one important item. When I 1st started the mower, I tried to engage the blades, only to have the motor "die" on each attempt. So, I tried lowering the speed of the motor to just above an idle, and the blades engaged without killing the motor. I the tried to increase the speed and the motor started to stumble and ran very rough???? Turns out, that when the deck is in it's highest position, you cannot engage the blades. Apparently, when at it's highest, the angle of the belts is too severe from the engine pully to the deck, and there must be some sort of safety shut off. That's fine, and I can see the logic. However, this should be highlighted in the manual, but there is NO MENTION at all! Here I am, thinking there is a problem with my new mower, when in fact everything is just fine. Once I lowered the deck height just a notch or two from it's highest point, the mowers engaged just fine and I was able to increase the power of the engine without issue. It appears that the highest deck level is a "transport mode" of sorts and not intended for cutting. Again, that's great....just let the buyer know!

Craftsman vs. Cub Cadet

Verified Owner Verified Purchase
Mar 11, 2024

With all the brands of lawn tractors to choose from. I narrowed it down to the cub cadet and the craftsman T2200K. This craftsman has a tight turn 5 in. radius and a Kohler 20hp 7000 series engine. Since both seem to be made at the same factory, and most of the same parts. The look of the Craftsman is the winner.

Real review - completely satisfied

Purchased in July 2022. I believe this is a replacement or update to the T240. Had it delivered to my home and it came off the truck in pristine condition. I had read the horror stories of flat tires, dead batteries, weathering, dirt etc. I had none of that. What I got was clearly brand new. Now, it was out of stock for a while and I ordered as soon as it came back available, so I suspect it had not been sitting out on display at the store. Anyway, I was completely satisfied with the delivery. Tire pressure was a bit high in all 4 tires, so I adjusted. Checked the oil - good to go. Connected the battery, put some gas and she started right up. I've started and run her probably 3-4 times now. No problems starting at all. Operation is a breeze (after mowing an acre with a push mower, this was a blessing!) Of course, cuts a smooth wide swath and the tight turning radius is helpful. The ride is as smooth as your lawn. I have some rough spots and she bumps over the bumps. And I have some smooth areas where she rolls right through. In a rural area with a drainage ditch along the street, she'll take most of the slope - if not alongside then at least cross-wise. And she will climb up on my drain field (probably a 4-foot slope). I am completely satisfied with this purchase and "look forward" to mowing my lawn for years to come.
